Hello! I’m Marc, a long time miniature painter and hobbyist. I’ve been making models in one form or another for over 15 years now, and I’ve found that realistic terrain and scenery can really elevate a tabletop game, or bring a diorama to life. However, I remember how daunting it felt when I made my first board, and how many mistakes I made. My goal is to teach people the key skills needed for terrain building, so that they will feel more confident and able to make great looking pieces for themselves; be it for wargaming, model railway building, or anything else!
In this class, you will be guided through making a small 30x30cm board, during which you will learn and practice all of the core skills required to make a board of any size.
YOU WILL GET TO KEEP THE PIECE YOU MAKE - to use as the base for a diorama, to take pictures of your miniatures on, or simply as inspiration for future projects!
The class will include:
- How to plan a board
- How to build up hills and cliffs
- How to make and paint realistic rock formations
- Making, applying, and sealing realistic soil
- Different kinds of grass and flock, from tufts and foams to static grass applicators
- A section to ask any extra questions and discuss ideas for boards or dioramas you’re thinking about
